ResBaz gets making
By Fiona TweedieFor three days last week, we turned the Dulcie Hollyock room in the Baillieu Library into a pop-up makerspace. Activities ranged from the high-tech, with 3D printing proving very popular, to the low-tech, with origami, book art, and even a spinning demonstration from librarian Will Villareal.
Of course, like all our projects, we had some help from our friends! Robogals kindly joined us with their demonstration robots on Thursday, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of the library staff and Matt Stewart from Sustainable Campus.

So who came along to play? We did a short survey of visitors, and respondents were pretty evenly split between undergrads, postgrads and staff. Attendees identified having a background in science (38%), humanities (28%), engineering (14%) or maths (14%). 3D printing and yarn/ paper crafts were our most popular activities, each tried by 34% of visitors. And 75% said they would like to see more makerspace activites on campus, so watch this (maker)space!
