3D Printing Drop-In Session (31/03/2014)
This week, we introduce Dr. Mike Kuiper, a computational research scientist from the VLSCI. Mike specialises in molecular simulation, visulisation, and is also a big fan of 3D printing. Combining his three passions together, he has managed to 3D print an interactive DNA helix.
Watch David, play with the T’s C’s G’s and A’s of life’s Lego, and present an example of a final helix structure. Traditionally, these interactive helix models are very expensive, yet Mike has managed to use 3D modelling and printing to produce them at both a higher quality and a lower cost. The end result: An affordable helix model that can be used for teaching at both schools as well as universities.
